I tried really hard not to post my views on this election. I really did. But for myself, I need to write.
I just got done watching John McCain concession speech. It made me tear up. To me, he is the definition of a True American Hero. Regardless of all the politics, you can not and will not take that away from him.
This is the first election I actually took heart into. I remember when I first heard about Obama, I was like what the hell is this man doing running around with a name that is a letter off from our Biggest Enemy and a middle name that is the last name of our other biggest enemy??? It scared me. Then the emails came out about his religious beliefs, his closest advisers, his racist comments in his book, how he refuses to salute the flag, etc. You can not, not look at those emails when they fill your email box up EVERYDAY. Reading those emails scared me. What scared me more, was he never addressed them. They were swept under the rug and out of sight out of mind. Then the emails came out about Mc Cain. Mainly they addressed his POW status. He seemed like the definition of an American. I liked this guy. So I watched him speak and noticed he never moved his arms higher then a little above his belly button. I thought it was just a cute old man thing. I researched some more. He couldnt move his arms higher then that, because he had his shoulders repeatedly broken when he was held captive for FIVE years. He was offered early release but denied because he didnt want to leave his fellow men behind. I was shocked. Here was this man who couldnt Salute the flag he defended because of the abuse he had received and then here was this other man who just chose not to salute it. I was sold at that point. Mc Cain could of came out during the debates shooting up heroine and I would of been like he does it because he is American and he is in pain from defending America! He would of still had my vote. And then he spiced it up, with throwing the oh my God adorable Sarah Palin in the mix and I was like this is awesome! She was a breath of fresh air.
This is what was said after she was chosen as the running mate:
“McCain’s choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate is a cynical and calculated move. It is a choice made to try to win an election. It is a political gimmick. And it’s very high risk. I find it insulting to women, to the Republican party, and to the country.”
This offended me. I agree it was a calculated move to win the election. Saying its a cynical move is harsh.
It came out of left field and hit America with a little shock and Awe. However it is not insulting to women, to the republican party and to America. I think that by saying it is insulting to women, that you are actually insulting women.
No one would give a woman a chance. Hilary Clinton was laughed at and never had a shot at becoming President. The democrats let her run to make a better case for Obama. The republican Party gave a woman a chance and now it was up to her to prove it.
But its over now. We have a new President and it is not who I wanted.
I came to terms with how this election would go a few weeks ago. I didnt like it. I dont like it. But I have accepted it. I am willing to give Obama the same respect that I have gave to past Presidents, once he has earned it.
I want him to prove me wrong. I want him to make me eat crow and wash my mouth out with soap. I am ready to give him that chance. I am sick to death of all the hate that is going on between the voters. It has literally came down to a white/black issue. It is like this election made us all take a huge step backwards instead of moving us forward. Regardless of his race, he is our President. He is our new Commander in Chief. He, at the least, deserves us to give him a chance.
I want to leave you with the video of Mc Cains concession speech, because it was delivered beautifully. Along with being the definition of a True American Hero, he is now the definition of Class.
PS. I ran out of gas on the way home today. That was a lot of fun. Sad thing is I cant blame it on the gas prices, I was just to lazy to get some…..
